»Starting studying is a whole new chapter in your life. And how do you face the unknown? You jump head first into it!«

Lea Hübner Germany
Automation Technology
»Yes, I am German and yes, I am studying my first two semesters in English. Why? Well, one of my professors always says “why not?”, so why not? But to be honest I was scared at the beginning. Starting studying is a whole new chapter in your life. And how do you face the unknown? You jump head first into it! I met some amazing people, with heart-touching personalities, from all over the world and I know that together we will survive the next three and a half years.«

»Before moving to Germany I felt nervous about how the university would be or if I would be able enough to use my knowledge to reach my goals. But here is the good thing about Hochschule Mannheim. I share a small class with other intercultural new friends, which has allowed the professors to really work with us individually so that together we can come up with a solution to a problem. And this is helping me a lot to develop myself professionally and personally for future employment opportunities. I am really grateful for that!«

»I came to Germany right after turning eighteen without knowing any German or anyone who might help me with moving in or the bureaucracy. I cannot describe the anxiety I felt the days before my flight. But as soon as I arrived at the university, a bunch of people surrounded me and the other new international students, providing all of the help we needed and even more. As the days went by, several welcome activities offered by Hochschule Mannheim helped us to learn more and more about each other and to gain an overall sense of belonging.«
»After having met and seen so many senior students doing such enviable work and projects thanks to this study course and after having been engaged myself a little in all this, the answer is: yes, I´m sure I made the right choice!«

»When choosing our course of studies, we are in a period of big changes in which we are really building our identities. In some ways, we are making our first big responsible choices and this will mean for most of us, to leave our family. Of course, when I first decided to come here, at eighteen years old, I couldn´t know if this would still be the right choice after some months or years. But now, when I ask myself whether what I do reflects my initial expectations and whether these expectations are congruous with my needs, after having met and seen so many senior students doing such enviable work and projects thanks to this study course and after having been engaged myself a little in all this, the answer is: yes, I´m sure I made the right choice!«
»The small number of students in a lecture at Hochschule Mannheim definitely helps a lot in having a better understanding of the courses since we have more attention from the professors and since there is more room for open discussions.«

»The small number of students in a lecture at Hochschule Mannheim definitely helps a lot in having a better understanding of the courses since we have more attention from the professors and since there is more room for open discussions. On top of that, people in Germany are warm- welcoming and we are provided with all the materials needed in order to go through the programme efficiently. My choice of Hochschule Mannheim instead of a regular university has unquestionably been a huge step towards fulfilling my own ambitions.«

»One of the greatest moments in my life is being able to study and live in Germany. Especially living here in Mannheim is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Experiencing a new culture and the beautiful sights and buildings in Mannheim is one reason why I love living here. Mannheim is a very student type of place where you are surrounded by international people from all over the world. Being part of a very friendly group of international students, the citizen of Mannheim and also the staff from Hochschule Mannheim has made everything so smooth upon arriving in Germany and settling in. Studying at Hochschule Mannheim is very good because of its concept of high practical relevance and all the friendly and well trained professors. My German language has tremendously improved after coming here, I learn how to pick up the language very fast. I enjoy every bit on how the lectures are being taught and all the cool stuff that the Hochschule lets us do, such as programming or doing electrical boards in lab sessions. I highly recommend to come and enjoy being part of this fantastic journey Hochschule Mannheim has installed for you!«
»Above all, enjoy the ride, the years will fly by before you notice it!«

»I am an Egyptian electrical engineering student specializing in automation. I’ve just wrapped up my 7th semester at Hochschule Mannheim, and my journey has recently taken an exciting turn - I joined Siemens AG as a working student in the Future Lab at the Switchgear Factory, where together with my team we provide cutting-edge automation solutions to help optimize the production process, and I am currently completing my internship in the same branch.
The hybrid-language course structure at HS-Mannheim, combined with a strong engineering foundation, has significantly smoothened my transition into the industrial sector.
Looking back on my experience, if I had to share some advice with future students at Hochschule Mannheim, it would be this:
Build relationships: Establishing strong connections with colleagues and professors is crucial. These relationships not only enhance the learning experience but also provide support in both academic and professional settings.
Stay connected: studying abroad can be challenging, particularly when separated from family and friends. Make time for daily calls with loved ones; a quick FaceTime helps a lot.
Find your escape: Studying is important, but so is having something that brings you joy outside academics. Whether it’s sports/a hobby or having a walk along the Neckar. Make it a part of your daily routine, It’ll help you recharge.
Above all, enjoy the ride, the years will fly by before you notice it! «
»The fiddling, finding mistakes and solving problems was of course exhausting sometimes, but more importantly very interesting. Above all, when the program finally works and you understood where you made the mistake before, it is even more fun.«

»Towards the end of my schooltime, the question arose what I would like to do after finishing school my original answer was international business. Then, my school offered me the chance to visit a workshop to help deciding on a course of study. Throughout this workshop I realized that technology is the branch of study I would like to choose, “something with programming, mathematics, physics, ...” Therefore, I started to inform myself about different technical courses of study. Important for me was to find something that connects a practical aspect with my interest in the English language. As a result of this research, I found the course Electrical Engineering – Automation Technology as an international program. Eventually both wishes were fulfilled. On the one hand the practical aspect is satisfied by labs and an internship in industry. On the other hand, there is English as the main language in the lectures of the international program during the foundation course. Additionally, the same course also exists as a German course of study with German as the main language.«
»The combination of academic excellence, practical training and teamwork has helped me gain the confidence and skills needed for the industry.«

»Studying and living in Germany has been a life-changing journey and Hochschule Mannheim has played a crucial role in shaping my success. The structured academic approach, combined with practical experiences, has greatly contributed to my personal and professional growth.
During my first two semesters having lectures in English alongside German language courses helped me gain confidence in communicating with the public. By the beginning of my third semester all lectures were conducted in German which further strengthened my language skills and academic understanding.
The friendly and supportive professors, along with my colleagues, have been invaluable in my learning process. Their guidance and willingness to help with difficult concepts made it easier to grasp even the most complex theories. The teamwork in lab sessions has been particularly beneficial, preparing us for real-world industrial environments. These hands-on experiences not only reinforced theoretical knowledge but also equipped me with practical skills essential for the industry.
Overall, this combination of academic excellence, practical training, and teamwork has helped me gain the confidence and skills needed for the industry. It has also enabled me to find a student job in the industry alongside my studies, further enhancing my professional development.«
»The opportunity to complete my first year in English while simultaneously learning German in an immersive city environment made the process much easier than I had anticipated.«

»I can confidently say that I have made the right choice—not only by choosing to study Electrical Engineering with a focus on renewable energies but also by selecting the city of Mannheim. Mannheim is a relatively small, student-friendly city with several advantages. It is easy to navigate and communication with people is more accessible, with just enough exposure to the German language to help you improve your skills. Moreover, finding a side job was much easier than I had expected and further helped improve my German language skills. Regarding my studies, the opportunity to complete my first year in English while simultaneously learning German in an immersive city environment made the process much easier than I had anticipated. This approach allowed me to achieve my academic goals without having to dedicate extra time to learning the language separately before pursuing my degree. Finally, Mannheim is a very sports-friendly city. You can find your passion in various sports such as football, boxing, and more through clubs that compete at amateur to professional levels—some even offering opportunities to earn money. Additionally, the university provides free weekly sports classes through UniSports Mannheim, allowing students to choose a sport upon registration, further supporting ones passion in sports.«
